This article is written from a Christian standpoint. After a brief look at history and its ongoingeffects, the situation today will be outlined. Nigeria is now said to be one of the most dangerous places in the world for Christians, as in recent years persecution has led to thousands being killed and many thousands being rendered homeless. We therefore ask: what does the Bible, and particularly the gospel of Christ, teach us about persecution? As we learn from that, the questions arise as to what the role of the church is today; how Christians should live and conduct themselves in the current situation, and how pastors can effectively lead their people forward into tomorrow.
